JNU Student Union Elections Kick Off with April 25th Polls

NEW DELHI: The call to action has been sounded for the upcoming Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student union elections, scheduled for April 25th, with results to be announced on April 28th.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students Union Election Committee 2024-25 has officially unveiled the election schedule, marking the beginning of an exciting and pivotal time for the university. As the election season kicks off, the campus is buzzing with anticipation and energy.

The election process will commence on April 15th, with the release of the list of potential voters on April 13th. Corrections to the voter list can be made on April 14th, followed by the issuance of nomination forms later that day. Candidates will have the opportunity to file their nominations on April 15th, with the final list of candidates set to be announced on April 16th.

In the lead-up to the elections, various events and meetings will be held to engage and inform the student body. School General Body Meetings are scheduled for April 17th and April 21st, while the University General Body Meeting will take place on April 22nd. The highly anticipated Presidential debate is slated for April 23rd, providing candidates with a platform to showcase their vision and plans for the university.

On April 24th, a day of reflection and preparation, there will be no election campaigning. The voting process will take place on April 25th, with polling stations open from 9 AM to 1 PM and 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The counting of votes will commence at 9 PM on the same day, with the final results set to be announced on April 28th.

As the JNU community gears up for the upcoming elections, the campus is alive with excitement and anticipation, as students eagerly await the opportunity to exercise their democratic right and shape the future of their university.

A 45-member committee has been established to oversee the organization of the JNU Students Union elections, comprised of individuals from various schools and centers. Vikas has been appointed as the chairman of this committee, as announced by the JNU Dean Students Office. His primary responsibility is to ensure adherence to the rules and regulations set forth by the Lingdoh Committee for the JNU Students Union elections, with strict instructions to uphold the election code of conduct.

In preparation for the upcoming elections, the committee has directed individuals to review and make any necessary corrections to the voter list prior to submitting nominations, to ensure accurate identification of both the proposer and the candidate. Following the finalization of the candidate list, a general body meeting will be announced. To facilitate a peaceful and orderly election process, Chairman Vikas has reached out to the Senior Warden of Jhelum Hostel at JNU, seeking cooperation.

This year, the student union elections are taking place approximately one month later than the previous year, with voting scheduled for April 25th. The delay has sparked protests from the student union, prompting the administration to issue a notification outlining the election timeline. Following the completion of the PhD admission process on March 3rd, elections were mandated to occur within six to eight weeks.

In the previous JNU student union election, Dhananjay (AISA) secured the position of president, Avijit Ghosh (SFI) was elected as vice president, Priyanshi (BAPSA) assumed the role of general secretary, and Mohammad Sajid (AISF) was appointed joint secretary.
