Delhi High Court Grants 10-Day Interim Bail to Saleem Khan to Arrange Daughter’s College Fees

Date:

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail for 10 days to Saleem Khan, who is accused in a UAPA case related to the 2020 communal riots in Delhi. This decision was made to allow Khan to arrange funds for his daughter’s college fees. Khan, along with several others including Sharjeel Imam, Khalid Saifi, and Umar Khalid, has been booked under the anti-terror law UAPA for their alleged involvement in the riots that resulted in 53 deaths and over 700 injuries.

The court, comprising of Justices Navin Chawla and Shalinder Kaur, granted this relief to Khan on the condition that he adheres to the terms set during his previous bail release in December 2024. Khan’s counsel argued that he has never misused his liberty and has always surrendered on time. However, the prosecutor opposed the plea, citing Khan’s involvement in damaging CCTV cameras during the riots.

Despite this, the court took into account a verification report submitted by the prosecution confirming that Khan’s daughter is indeed studying law at Jamia Hamdard University. As a result, Khan has been directed to provide a personal bond of Rs 20,000 along with a surety of the same amount.
