NOTORIOUS GUN RUNNER  ARRESTED BY SPECIAL CELL; 5 FIREARMS AND 500 CARTRIDGES RECOVERED

  • A key member of interstate illegal firearm racket arrested.
  • 05 illegal semi-automatic pistols and 500 live cartridges recovered from him.

A team of Special Cell led by Insp. Vivekanand Pathak and Insp. Kuldeep Singh,  under the supervision of Shri Nishant Gupta, ACPhas arrested a major supplier of illegal arms and ammunition namely Kunwarpal r/o Distt. Hapur, Uttar Pradesh has been arrested. Five illegal semi-automatic pistols and 500 live cartridges have been recovered from him.

For about last one year, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has launched a special drive against suppliers of illegal firearms and ammunition in Delhi. Concerted efforts resulted in busting several such interstate firearm syndicates and arrest of several members of these modules by seizing more than 600 sophisticated/semi-automatic weapons. During investigation of these cases, it was found that the firearms and cartridges were being brought to Delhi and NCR from Meerut and nearby areas of UP.

Both human and technical surveillance were kept on the  activities of these gun runners . During surveillance, a new syndicate of supply of firearms and cartridges in Delhi was identified. It was further  transpired that illegal weapons and live cartridges are mainly supplied  in Delhi from Meerut and nearby areas in UP by the members of this syndicate.

Operation

On 20/09/2019 specific information was received  that one Kunwarpal, resident of Garh Mukteshwar, UP  would come near Delhi Jal Board Office, Tahirpur, Delhi to deliver a huge consignment of illegal arms and ammunition to one Shadab and Sarik, resident of Sunder Nagari, Delhi. Immediately, a raiding party was formed and a trap was laid near Delhi Jal Board Office where Kunwarpal was apprehended with five illegal semi-automatic pistols and 500 live cartridges i.e. 400 live cartridges of .32 bore and 100 live cartridges of .315 bore were recovered from his possession .  A case under appropriate sections of law has been registered at PS Special Cell, Delhi.

Interrogation of accused

The arrested accused person was subjected to sustained interrogation  he disclosed that he has been indulging in this trade of illegal firearms and ammunition for more than five years. He further disclosed that he procured illegal firearms and ammunition from one Pradeep, resident of Hasanpur, UP. He revealed that he procures illegal semiautomatic pistols from Pradeep @ Rs. 10,000 per weapon and supplies the same to various criminals @ Rs. 15,000 per pistol. He further told that he procures .32 bore live cartridges @ Rs. 200 per cartridges and .315 bore cartridges @ Rs.150 per cartridges. He supplies these cartridges to various criminals @ Rs.300 per cartridges and @ Rs.200 per cartridges respectively. He disclosed that this year, he has sold off  more than 20 pistols and 1000 cartridges in Delhi-NCR region. He also disclosed that there has been a huge demand for such weapons due to “style-factor” among the youth. He said that once a weapon is sold then the demand for cartridges is automatically created which further fuels this illegal trade.

He revealed that he came in touch with Pradeep through a resident of his village and procured illegal ammunition from him. Slowly, he gained the confidence of Pradeep and started transporting these illegal articles for him.

Profile of Accused Persons

The accused Kunwarpal hails from a poor family. He is illiterate. He was engaged in the work of farming, in order to earn easy money he entered in the trade of supply of illegal firearms and ammunition. He  procured illegal firearms from one Pradeep of Hassanpur, UP as demanded by criminals and supplied the same to various receivers of Delhi and UP including Shadab and Sarik.

Further investigation is in progress.
