Defence lover: Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad’s activities are in the light again after its Srinagar –based operative Ashiq Baba claimed the 2017 attack on Pulwama police-lines was conducted under JeM Kashmir terrorist Mufti Waqas.
Baba was being interrogated for his alleged role in the attack on the Army base at Nagrota when he spilled the beans on the lethal attack that killed eight security personnel. Baba’s involvement in the JeM camps in Pakistan and his contacts with the top leaders close to Jaish boss Maulana Masood Azhar is proving to be beneficial as now a lot of information can be taken out of him about Jihadi leaders.
“For receiving these highly trained terrorists from Pakistani, providing logistical help, identifying the targets and dropping them at attack sites, Ashiq Baba received huge amount as reward from Gulf countries,” said a source.
The Pulwama attack took place on August 26, 2017 when three attackers in the disguise of Indian combats entered the camp early in the morning in the presence of families of the personnel. The attack has shown Jaish activities to become more and more charged up and prominent.
This year in March, a highly wanted terrorist Waqas was killed in an encounter with the security forces. He was also responsible for the Sunjuwan Army camp attack on February 11, 2018 that killed a junior commissioned officer (JCO).
Ashiq Baba and Emir Maulana Masood Azhar’s brother Abdul Rauf and Maulana Mufti Asghar are providing details of Jaish’s operations and plannings to the security forces.
Baba had travelled to Pakistan between 2015 and 2017 to meet JeM leaders in the Bahawalpur headquarters with the Pakistani visas on the recommendation of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
He is an “important link in JeM sending several groups of attackers to Kashmir over the years. He is among very few people in the valley, who were in direct touch with the top leadership of Jaish”, said a source .
Being under interrogation by NIA, Baba has apparently claimed the lauch of Pakistani terrorists into India from Kashmir border under the charge of one Abdulla.
